Open to residents of the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, Encinitas, Oceanside, San Marcos, Vista.

Sampling of invertebrates. Volunteers identify water rifles for testing.

Purpose: To train community stewards to provide public outreach, monitoring and restoration activities for the protection of the natural resources of the Carlsbad Watershed.

Oct. 20, 2005 (Thur.) Take a tour of the Agua Hedionda Creek from its headwaters to the coast. See first hand what a watershed is and how different land uses affect the services that natural systems provide to keep our waters clean. 9 am - 3 pm
Oct. 21, 28, 2005 (Fri.) Stream sampling techniques (biological, physical chemical) Learn how to test water quality using physical guidelines, chemical tests and biological sampling. 9 am - 3 pm
Oct. 22, 29, 2005 (Sat.)

Macro-invertebrates sorting and identification:Learn how to sort the benthic macro invertebrates (technical term, bugs) and determine water quality by the presence and concentration of the different species in the samples you collect.
